Sunday 9 January
- Moderator | From January to March, Councils & Committees will prepare their work for presentation to the General Assembly in June. Pray for the Conveners & Secretaries, having to work in a shorter timeframe this year, because of the delayed General Assembly in Oct 2021. Pray that debates and decisions required will be facilitated well.
- Worship: Searched and known | ‘You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.’ Psalm 139:1. As we worship today invite God to search the hearts of his people and to address their deepest needs.
Monday 10 January
- Edwin & Anne Kibathi (global mission workers in the UK) | Pray for Edwin and Anne as they continue to minister and reach out to the East African expatriate community in the UK. Give thanks and pray for the church in East London and the growing fellowships in Reading and Luton.
- Indonesia | Give thanks and pray for our continuing partnership with the Christian Church of Sumba. Pray the God’s blessing on the church, that it will be a strong shining light for Christ on the island of Sumba and beyond.
Tuesday 11 January
- John Gilkinson (chaplain, Belfast City Hospital) | Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide John as he provides pastoral care to patients, staff and family members and that he will bring words of comfort, strength and hope in every conversation, so that people will come to know Christ or be strengthened in their Christian faith.
- Bellasis, Cavan, Drumkeeran, Killeshandra (Monaghan Presbytery) | Pray for these linked congregations, continuing to worship and witness during the pandemic, and remember their minister, Rev Jean Mackarel.
Wednesday 12 January
- Csaba & Ilona Veres (global mission workers in Romania) | Pray for Csaba & Ilona who are on home assignment as they speak about what God is doing in Transylvania. Pray for protection & stamina for the Diakonia home care nursing team as they continue to help those in need, despite the challenges of covid and the cold winter months.
- Latvia | Pray for the Evangelical Reformed Church of Latvia and the Baltic Reformed Theological Seminary. Pray that God will build up his church in the Baltic region for his glory.
Thursday 13 January
- Jason Sime (community outreach worker in Alexandra, Belfast) | Pray for Jason who began working in youth and children’s ministry in Alexandra in the autumn. Pray that the Lord will guide and encourage him and that many more children and young people in the local community will come to faith in Jesus.
- Bray (Co Wicklow) & Blackrock (Co Dublin) | Pray for Rev Andrew Gill, the kirk session and members of the congregations as they continue to seek opportunities to share the gospel with others.
Friday 14 January
- Social Witness | Pray for comfort for those who mourn today. Pray that they will feel God’s presence, whether the loss is recent or more distant. Strengthen those whose loss was sudden, & those who foresaw the end and had to cope with the knowledge that time was short. May we all be aware of the sadness of others and support them.
- Business | Pray for those who run their own businesses, especially those who find this time of year to be a difficult time, and those who continue to respond to pandemic restrictions. Pray that God would equip them with the strength, stamina and wisdom that they need at this time.
Saturday 15 January
- General Council | Pray for the various Task Groups appointed to carry forward work decided by the 2021 General Assembly. Remember especially one of those Task Groups, which is meeting during the incoming week – seeking to review PCI’s response to the Covid-19 Pandemic and discern theological, moral and spiritual principles to guide the Church in any similar situation which could arise in the future.
- Training in Ministry | The Assignments Panel assigns ministry students to congregations for placements and assistantships – a vital aspect of students’ preparation for ministry, providing valuable opportunities to learn alongside a supervising minister. Pray for the Panel as it meets on Thursday 20 January, that the Lord would guide its decisions.
