Sunday 8 October

  • Moderator |Christian maturity is not a matter of doing more for God; it is God doing more in and through us. Immaturity is noisy with anxiety fuelled self-importance” – Eugene Peterson ‘Practise Resurrection’. At the start of another month let us take time again to pause, Selah, to be still and know that he is God.
  • Worship: Sing to God | ‘Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvellous things.” Psalm 98:1. Give thanks for the marvellous things God has done and ask that your worship today might be filled with the music of the fresh gratitude of a thankful heart.

Monday 9 October

  • Steve and Rosie Kennedy, global mission workers, Romania | Pray for the strategy meetings within Tóköz Reformed Church, as they seek God’s direction for the future. Pray for the new pastors, Szílvester and Csilla Bánto-Tamás, together with Senior pastor András Kozma, as they settle into a new working relationship.
  • Evangelical Reformed Church of Latvia (including the Baltic Reformed Theological Seminary) | Pray for Artis Celmins, Director, along with his colleagues at BRTS, as they deliver seminary programmes for the upbuilding of church leaders in Latvia.

Tuesday 10 October

  • Kenny Hanna, rural chaplain | Give thanks for the new opportunity of a monthly evangelistic Bible study in Kilcoo. Pray that God would be at work in the hearts of those who attend from all backgrounds, that they would grow to know and love Jesus more.
  • Irvinestown, Pettigo and Tempo | Pray for the congregations as they gather for worship each week; that they would meet with the Lord Jesus and that they would be drawn to walk more closely with him.

Wednesday 11 October

  • Stephen and Angelina Cowan, global mission workers, Kenya | Pray for those who will attend the YWAM discipleship school commencing at the beginning of October. Pray that the country will be blessed with good rains which are urgently needed.
  • Presbyterian Church of South Sudan | Pray for a new initiative towards mediation between the 34th General Assembly Administration and the breakaway administration of the church, so that it’s unity would be re-established and that it might work constructively towards peace and stability in the country.

Thursday 12 October

  • Dan Rosbotham, community outreach worker, Ravenhill | Give thanks for the relationships Dan has established with unchurched young people. Pray for Dan as he serves God, sharing the good news of Jesus to those in the community.
  • Kilkenny | Give thanks for the congregation and for several new Christians who are presently doing a discipleship course. Pray that they will become fruitful disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and will see their unsaved families and friends turn to the Lord.

Friday 13 October

  • Addiction | Addiction is an ever-growing problem throughout Ireland. Pray for those suffering that they may get the right help and support to overcome their addiction problems. Pray for Gray’s Court, providing long-term supported housing to those in the early stages of their recovery. Give thanks for the commitment of the staff as they work alongside service users.
  • Council for Public Affairs | Pray for Rev Daniel Kane as he commences a new year as convener of the Council for Public Affairs. Pray for wisdom, confidence and grace as the Council continues to engage in the public square.

Saturday 14 October

  • General Council | Pray for the annual ICC (Irish Council of Churches) meeting being held in the coming week. Pray for the Moderator, Clerk and Rev Helen Freeburn (Church Relations convener) and others as they represent PCI.
  • Training in Ministry | The Ministerial Studies and Development Committee oversees the training pathways of trainee ministers, and their congregational placements. Pray for the Committee and for its convener, Rev Eddie Chestnutt, who assumed the role at the Assembly in June. Pray too, for Prof David Leach, the Professor of Ministry. Ask God to give wisdom in all of the decisions about the training of students.
