Sunday 8 August

  • Moderator | Pray for deaconesses who serve in congregations, & in the community through missional projects, & in chaplaincy. Pray for those who have applied to serve in this capacity, and for their training in future years.
  • Fanning the flame of congregational life: Being flexible | Ask God to help congregations be flexible in their journey towards more regular rhythms of church activity, so that we can restrain any future frustration that might come from unanticipated events or if the pace of the return to greater normality slows.

Monday 9 August

  • Brazil | Pray for Brazil where Covid-19 cases have been very high throughout the pandemic and where over half a million people have died. Pray for Brazil’s government, healthcare system, and for more vaccine availability.
  • Naomi Keefe (global mission worker, Brazil) | Pray for Naomi as she continues to serve in church-based community development and evangelism in Olinda / Recife. Pray for her as she prepares resources and leads training sessions. Pray too for the Good News Club, Coffee with God, & football outreach which she is involved in.

Tuesday 10 August

  • Heidi England (deaconess in Railway Street, Lisburn) | Give thanks to God for his ongoing work in the lives of members of Railway Street congregation. Pray that Heidi’s visiting ministry will be helpful and a blessing to people and also honouring to Christ.
  • Carndonagh, Malin, Greenbank and Moville (Co Donegal) | Pray for these four congregations as they seek opportunities to share the gospel. Pray too for Rev Philip Poots as he continues to settle into ministry there.

Wednesday 11 August

  • Middle East | Pray for the staff and students at JETS as they prepare for the start of the new semester. Pray that staff and students who need visas to be granted or renewed will receive them in good time.
  • Myanmar | Pray for a just and peaceful resolution to the ongoing civil unrest following the military coup earlier this year. Pray for the leaders and members of the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar that they will find strength, comfort and hope in Christ and for opportunities to show Christ’s love to others.

Thursday 12 August

  • Christine Wilson (community outreach worker in Lisnabreen, Bangor) | Pray that the ‘Giving Tables’ ministry providing families with free school uniforms, resources and food, will reveal God’s goodness and love to many. Pray for God to transform the lives of the children and teenagers who come to the congregation’s summer clubs.
  • Carrigart & Dunfanaghy (Co Donegal) | Pray for these linked congregations which are vacant at present. Pray for the kirk sessions and members as they seek God’s guidance. Pray too for Rev Brian Brown, vacancy convener.

Friday 13 August

  • Social Witness | Pray for Disability Services as they start to get back to more normal routines and participate in summer activities and outings. Give thanks for staff teams who have been resourceful in adjusting to new ways of working as they continue to manage the transition.
  • Asylum seekers and refugees| Pray for those who arrive on the island of Ireland having fled their homes and livelihoods in other troubled parts of the world. Pray that they would receive appropriate help and assistance and give thanks for initiatives like International Meeting Point which provide support.

Saturday 14 August

  • General Council | Pray for those who work in the Conference and Facilities Department as they prepare for what will be a busy autumn period.  Pray particularly for the preparations being made for the resumption of external conferencing in Assembly Buildings as necessary mitigations are put in place.
  • Council for Training in Ministry | Ministry applicants applications to be accepted as students for the ministry have to be submitted by 15 September. Speak to anyone you know who may have gifting for ordained ministry and encourage them to consider whether God is calling them to this vocation. Pray for all thinking about applying that they may know God’s guidance.
