Sunday 7 August

  • Moderator | Pray for the Moderator as he visits New Horizon in the coming week. Pray that he might bring encouragement to the many people he will meet with and that he himself will be encouraged and ministered to.
  • Worship throughout the year: Prayer for the preacher | Give thanks for those whom God has gifted to open God’s Word in preaching each week. Ask that he will help them to do so with faithfulness and in a form which readily speaks into our lives today.

Monday 8 August

  • Diane Cusick (global mission worker, Zambia) | Pray for Diane as she continues to recover from serious illness in Belfast. Pray for the ongoing work of early childhood development carried out by the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian Synod of Zambia and for those covering Diane’s work in Zambia.
  • Indonesia | Pray for God’s blessing on the Christian Church of Sumba. Pray for leaders and members to continue to grow in their faith, knowledge and love of the Lord, and for others on the island of Sumba to come to faith in Christ.

Tuesday 9 August

  • Kenny Hanna (rural chaplain) | Pray for refreshment for Kenny as he takes some time off in August. Remember Jim Henning, covering the livestock markets in Kenny’s absence.
  • Fermoy & Cahir | Give thanks for a wonderful Bible Club week in Fermoy and pray for more opportunities to sow into these young lives in the months and years ahead. Give thanks for blessings in Cahir, as they see lives turning and trusting in the Lord Jesus. Pray for more labourers.

Wednesday 10 August

  • Steve & Rosie Kennedy (global mission workers, Romania) | Pray for Steve and Rosie on a short home assignment this summer after a busy time in July with summer outreach programmes for children and young people. Pray for a time of rest and refreshment before they return to Cluj in the coming weeks.
  • Latvia | Pray for our partners in Latvia, the Evangelical Reformed Church of Latvia and the Baltic Reformed Theological Seminary. Pray for their work and witness, including reaching out to help refugees from Ukraine.

Thursday 11 August

  • Dan Rosbotham (community outreach worker, Ravenhill) | Pray for Dan as he serves God in the Ravenhill area of Belfast, reaching out to people in the community with the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Galway | Give thanks for new members and visitors. Pray that members will deepen their faith, service, friendship and unity. Pray for more leaders for Sunday school, youth group and student work and for these ministries. Pray that they will be able to build new toilets and meeting rooms behind the church building.

Friday 12 August

  • Social Witness | Staffing is one of the most important factors in the delivery of high-quality care. At times it is difficult to recruit staff & this puts the staff team in place under pressure to cover extra shifts. Give thanks for care assistant positions recently filled. Pray that vacant posts in Older Peoples Services will be filled with suitable staff.
  • Politics | Pray for elected representatives across the UK and Ireland as they seek to serve their constituents. Pray for wisdom in decision making as they seek to tackle challenges like the cost of living crisis, hospital waiting lists and other issues.

Saturday 13 August

  • General Council | Pray for wisdom for the conveners and secretaries of the large number of committees, panels and task groups under the General Council. Pray for them as they plan the new session’s work, especially for those who will be drawing up important reports for the 2023 General Assembly.
  • Training in Ministry | Ministry Applicants – Applications to be accepted as students for the ministry have to be submitted by 15 September. Speak to anyone you know who may have gifting for ordained ministry and encourage them to consider whether God is calling them to this vocation. Pray for all thinking about applying that they may know God’s guidance.
