Sunday 6 February

  • Moderator | Thank God for the many stories of encouragement around the church. God is active in the world, and people are being drawn closer to him. Pray for people who have recently become believers in Jesus – that they will grow in faith in the coming months.
  • Worship: Desiring God’s presence | ‘Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you!’ Isaiah 64:1. Ask for a real and meaningful sense of God’s presence in worship today.

Monday 7 February

  • Southern Africa | Cyclone Ana brought strong winds and torrential rain to several countries killing at least 86 people and displacing tens of thousands from their homes. Pray for all affected by the cyclone and for the governments and aid agencies involved in providing emergency assistance and longer-term recovery.
  • Middle East | Pray for staff at JETS as they equip spiritual leaders for planting and strengthening churches in the Arab World. Pray too for churches reaching out to refugees with the gospel and providing practical support.

Tuesday 8 February

  • Keith Preston (International Meeting Points – IMP) | Pray for wisdom and guidance for Keith as he leads the work of the two IMPs. Pray for the staff and volunteers, especially Shirley McGonigle the new Assistant Project Leader in North Belfast. Pray that many of those who come along to the IMPs will come to faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Donegal & Stranorlar (Co Donegal) | Pray for the ongoing work and witness of the two congregations. Pray too for wisdom as they consider restarting activities and programmes now that restrictions are beginning to ease.

Wednesday 9 February

  • Gary & Mary Reid (global mission workers, Kenya) | Pray that the Holy Spirit will work in the lives of the Maasai, convicting people of their sin and their need of Jesus as their Saviour, and blessing those who do know Jesus as their Saviour with a deeper knowledge of him, enabling them to share their faith with others.
  • Brazil | Pray for the work and witness of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, and especially for all efforts to reach out with God’s love and care to those living in deprived areas.

Thursday 10 February

  • Healthcare chaplains | Pray for PCI’s full-time and part-time healthcare chaplains as they provide pastoral care and support to hospital patients, families and staff during the ongoing pandemic. Pray for protection and stamina for hospital staff and that staff, patients and families will know God is with them in these difficult times.
  • Douglas (Co Tyrone) | Pray for God’s blessing on Rev David Reid, the kirk session and members of Douglas home mission congregation as they live out their faith and share the Good News with other people.

Friday 11 February

  • Social Witness | Please pray for Margaret Miller who joined the Council as Disability Services Manager covering Caroline Yeoman’s maternity leave. Remember her as she undertakes the line management of all our Disability Services and settles into her role. Give thanks for Caroline and the safe arrival of baby Pippin.
  • Politics | As the countdown to the next Assembly election begins, give thanks for those who seek to serve their communities by seeking elected office. Pray that debates in the public square would be marked by dignity and respect.

Saturday 12 February

  • General Council | Give thanks for the administrative staff who work in Assembly Buildings, in support of the seven Councils of the General Assembly. Ask God to encourage them in all they do.
  • Training in Ministry | The Council convener is Rev Nigel McCullough, minister of Hill Street, Lurgan. Pray for Nigel as he ministers there, and devotes the time needed to the work of the Council. Pray that the Lord will give him energy and wisdom, and that he will be filled with, and led by, the Holy Spirit in all that he does.
