Sunday 6 August
- Moderator | Pray for everyone who will attend New Horizon this week, 5-11 August, that the promise of the festival’s theme from Isaiah 61:3 will be fulfilled, and they will receive from the Lord himself, “a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
- Worship throughout the year: Prayer for the preacher | Give thanks for those whom God has gifted to open God’s Word each week. Ask that he will help them to do so with faithfulness and in a form which readily speaks into our lives today.
Monday 7 August
- Naomi Leremore (global mission worker, Kenya) | Give thanks for Naomi’s involvement in writing and teaching the Tabernacle series of Sunday school lessons, and ask that the children who come weekly to Sunday school will treasure all they are learning of God’s truth.
- The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, Zambia Synod (CCAP Zambia) | Pray for the meeting of Synod’s General Administration Committee from 22-27 August, especially for Rev Sevatt Kabaghe in his role as General Secretary.
Tuesday 8 August
- Paula Burrows, deaconess, Ballygrainey | Give thanks for times of rest and refreshment over the summer months. Pray that God will guide the plans and preparations for the months ahead. May his will be done in and through the church family of Ballygrainey.
- Bellasis, Cavan, Drumkeeran & Killeshandra | Pray for Rev Jean Mackarel and the members of the congregations as they seek to be a witness of the good news of Jesus and to share the hope that only he can give.
Wednesday 9 August
- Stephen and Angelina Cowan (global mission workers, Kenya) | Pray for the youth camps in August and for the group of young musicians and word artists from Nairobi who will creatively relate and translate God’s truth to the children and young people.
- The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (including the Near East School of Theology) (NESSL) | Pray for the ministers of NESSL’s 40 congregations spread throughout Syria and Lebanon, that they may serve with wisdom and steadfastness and inspire hope amongst their members in the face of many hardships.
Thursday 10 August
- Tom Dowling, Irish mission worker, Kilkenny | Give thanks for the children who attended the Bible Club in the Fr McGrath Centre, the Coaching for Christ soccer camp, and for the many leaders who helped in various ways. Pray for outreaches resuming in September, including online Bible study, Bishop Birch Community Centre study and door-to-door evangelism.
- Bray and Blackrock | Pray that the congregations would be equipped to share the good news of Jesus with those in their surrounding communities and that many would come to saving faith in him.
Friday 11 August
- Social Witness | Pray for the Senior Management Team, who are dedicated to the ministry which is the work of social witness. May they continue to promote integrity in daily practices and may hearts remain full of compassion for those who reside and work in our services.
- Hospitality | Pray for the safety of those who work in the food and hospitality industry across the island of Ireland, which can be particularly busy over the summer months, and for owners of these businesses as they balance rising costs and staffing challenges.
Saturday 12 August
- General Council | Pray for the staff in Assembly Buildings’ IT Department as they manage PCI’s complex IT infrastructure. Pray for wisdom and discernment as upgrades and improvements are made on an ongoing basis, particularly in regard to data security and protection against cyber-attacks.
- Training in Ministry | Student deaconesses are nearing the end of their second-year placement in local congregations, and will soon be preparing for their final year of study, and a placement in another congregation. Pray for Heather Healy and Cathy Smith, and give thanks for the training that they have benefitted from up to this point.
