Sunday 4 December

  • Moderator | The clock is ticking… from Bethlehem “therefore stay awake for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming”. Let us pray for an awakening across the church.
  • Worship as an act of faith and love this Christmas | ‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her. Luke 1:38. Pray that we might approach worship this Christmas season with all that we are, offering our lives afresh in faith and love to God.

Monday 5 December

  • Steve and Rosie Kennedy (global mission workers, Romania) | Pray for Steve and Rosie as they continue with Hungarian language classes, plan to host another walking City Tour with their international student group, and seek ways to connect with new students.
  • World Development Appeal | Pray for a generous response to the 2022 World Development Appeal, “Rekindling Hope: From flight to flourishing” as it supports people worldwide who have had to flee their homes.

Tuesday 6 December

  • Heidi England (deaconess in Railway Street, Lisburn) | Give thanks for the recent completion of Railway Street’s building project. Please pray that they will use their facilities to magnify the name of Jesus, so that many may come to a saving faith, and grow into Christlike maturity.
  • Carndonagh, Greenbank, Malin and Moville | Pray that the prayer the congregations pray Sunday by Sunday will become increasingly true for them and the people of Inishowen: that by God’s Word and his Spirit we will see Jesus more clearly, love him more deeply and follow him more closely.

Wednesday 7 December

  • Stephen and Angelina Cowan (global mission workers, Kenya) | Pray for the Cowan family as they grieve the passing away of Stephen’s mother. Pray for Stephen and Angelina as they return to Kenya on 9 December and prepare for youth camps, 10 – 20 December.
  • World Food Crisis | With 828 million people going to bed hungry, pray for a just and timely provision of healthy, vitamin-rich food for those in greatest need and that a global food catastrophe be averted.

Thursday 8 December

  • Rev John Gilkinson (Healthcare chaplain, Belfast City Hospital) | Pray for John as he ministers to staff and patients, that he would have the wisdom and compassion that is needed for each pastoral situation.
  • Rev Nigel Craig, University chaplain, Queen’s University, Stranmillis and Union Theological College | Pray for Nigel as he settles into the role. Pray for the Chaplaincy Team as they run a busy programme this month, including Advent services, Christmas dinners, and graduations, that these would be times of meaningful connection with students and staff.

Friday 9 December

  • Homelessness | Pray that God will watch over those who tonight will sleep out in the cold winter air. Pray for those who work among those on the streets, giving them food and shelter, and assisting with health problems. Pray for wisdom and compassion for these agencies. Enable us to be filled with compassion toward homeless people and to find ways to help.
  • Delivery Workers | Many of us rely on deliveries at this time of year. Pray for those who work in processing facilities at this busy time, often in long shifts, and for those with responsibility to deliver parcels to our doors. Give thanks for the service they provide, and pray that, even in their busyness, they would have opportunities to encounter the grace and hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Saturday 10 December

  • General Council | Remember the staff in Assembly Buildings as, like all of us, they look forward to the Christmas Remember especially the staff carol service, which will be held in the incoming week, as they reflect on the coming of the Christ Child.
  • Training in Ministry | Union College Management Committee meets on Monday 12 December to review the work of this term and plan for next year. Give thanks for the successfully completed new security system, and pray for the Committee with all of the matters before it this week.
