Sunday 24 October
- Moderator | Please pray for the graduation service taking place at Union College this week. Give thanks for those who have successfully completed their studies and pray for God’s guidance in their lives as they consider their next steps, whether in ministry or some other sphere of service.
- Knowing God’s peace in worship | Ask God to grant us a knowledge and awareness of his peace in worship as we meet today, stilling our restlessness, calming our fears, renewing a quiet confidence in him.
Monday 25 October
- Steve & Rosie Kennedy (global mission workers, Romania) |Pray for the Cluj Christian Fellowship English service. Pray for Steve as he prepares the preaching schedule and monthly worship. Pray for the ongoing discussions and planning for the student ministry.
- Brazil | Pray for the work and witness of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, and especially for all efforts to reach out with God’s love and care to those living in deprived areas.
Tuesday 26 October
- Paula Burrows (deaconess in Ballygrainey, Co. Down) | Pray for the women’s and children’s ministries that Paula is involved in. Pray for Paula as she continues to build relationships and for opportunities to share God’s love with others.
- Lisbellaw, Lisnaskea, Maguiresbridge & Newtownbutler (Co. Fermanagh) | Pray for the work and witness of these home mission congregations. Pray for wisdom & guidance for Rev Rodney Beacom and the kirk sessions.
Wednesday 27 October
- Stephen & Angelina Cowan (global mission workers, Kenya) | Pray for Stephen and Angelina as they serve in the Tuum area of northern Kenya. Pray for an end to cattle raiding and for wise and courageous leaders to rise in the community and for an openness to new thinking.
- Pakistan | Pray for leaders and members of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan as they live out their faith in Christ. Pray for strength and protection for Christians suffering persecution.
Thursday 28 October
- David Boyd (Irish mission worker in Adelaide Road, Dublin) | Pray for a meeting this Sunday (31 October) to look at ways to resume in-person events at the International Café, and as they meet up with students for a walk. Pray too for the kirk session as they meet to discuss future outreach initiatives.
- Maynooth | Give thanks for a return to face-to-face services and as they share their worship space with a new Irish school. Pray for continued progress on the congregation’s new building project.
Friday 29 October
- Social Witness | Pray for all who continue to provide Health & Social Care in all settings during these challenging days & increased outbreaks. Pray for all CSW managers as they prepare for the increased pressures that the winter months bring to the care of older & vulnerable residents. Give thanks that more normal routines are returning.
- Elected Representatives | Give thanks for those elected representatives who serve our communities at local councils, the Oireachtas, UK Parliament, NI Assembly and the European Parliament. Pray for safety and protection for them, and their constituency and case-workers, as they go about their business.
Saturday 30 October
- General Council | Pray for the meeting of the Support Services Committee taking place next week as it oversees vital areas of the church’s administrative workings; Personnel, IT, Creative Production and Property. Pray for the Committee under the convenership of Mr David Thomson as they develop strategy in these key areas, especially as more normal working patterns start to resume for all staff.
- Training in Ministry | The Reception of Ministers and Licentiates Committee receives requests from ministers in other denominations, in Ireland and elsewhere, to become ministers in PCI. Pray for Rev Albert Baxter, the convener, and the committee, and give thanks for those who have become ministers in PCI by this route. Pray that the Lord would bless them, and use them to enrich our denomination.
