Sunday 23 July

  • Moderator | Since the beginning of creation, God in his gracious purpose provided marriage as the accepted way in which a man & a woman may come together as husband & wife. Give thanks and pray for those who are married, getting married, or who are single, that they would know God’s blessing, enrich society and bring glory to God.
  • Resting in God in worship | ‘Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.’ Psalm 116:7. Thank God for his provision and protection and ask that you might find fresh faith to rest in him in worship today.

Monday 24 July

  • James and Heather Cochrane (global mission workers, Portugal) | Pray for James and Heather as they begin their home assignment in Ireland, that this would be a time of reflection, guidance and rest. Pray that they would settle well, living in another culture.
  • United Bible Training Centre, Pakistan | Pray for women studying on the Discipleship course and Foundations for Bible Ministry course, that they would be well-equipped to serve in local churches, hospitals, schools, hostels and para-church organisations.

Tuesday 25 July

  • Gary Aitcheson, prison chaplain | Pray for Gary as he continues to build relationships with longer term prisoners and develops relationships with those who have recently arrived. Pray that the Lord would give him compassion and discernment as he serves the Lord in this way.
  • Aghada and Cork | Pray for the congregations as they gather for worship each week, that they would meet with the Lord Jesus and that they would be drawn to walk more closely with him.

Wednesday 26 July

  • Stephen and Angelina Cowan (global mission workers, Kenya) | Pray for the youth camps running in August and for the group of young musicians and word artists from Nairobi, who will creatively relate and translate God’s truth to the children and young people who come to camp.
  • Presbyterian Church of South Sudan (PCOSS), Sudan | Pray for the Church as they respond to the needs of refugees & returnees fleeing from the violence in Sudan, for immediate material needs & for peacebuilding efforts.

Thursday 27 July

  • Henry Coulter, assistant project leader at the International Meeting Point | Pray for Henry and all the staff and volunteers as they take some time over the summer to rest. Pray that they would return refreshed in mind, body and soul for the work that the Lord has called them into at the International Meeting Point.
  • Ballina, Ballymote and Killala | Pray for the congregations in this time of vacancy, that they would know the Lord’s presence and a clear sense of his leading and guiding. Pray also for Rev David Clarke in his role as vacancy convener as he supports the congregations.

Friday 28 July

  • Sunnyside House | Sunnyside is a residential care facility offering care and support to older people in a Christian environment & welcomes people from all denominations. Give thanks for the recent successful recruitment day. Pray that staff will continue to promote integrity in their daily practices & that hearts remain full of compassion for the residents.  
  • Education | Pray for those teachers with responsibility to deliver Relationships and Sexuality Education in schools. As discussions on the teaching of RSE continue in response to legislation from the Secretary of State, pray for wise decisions that will allow students to know their worth, flourish in their relationships and make good choices.

Saturday 29 July

  • General Council | The 2023 General Assembly agreed to set up a new Communications Department within Assembly Buildings. Pray for the Clerk of the Assembly and others as they oversee transitional arrangements, remembering especially staff whose jobs will change owing to this significant reorganisation.   
  • Training in Ministry | Ministry students are in the middle of their summer assistantships in local congregations. Pray that this experience will shape them & their practice of ministry, that the congregations in which they serve will be blessed through them, and that they will also have time for a holiday to re-charge for the next academic year.
