Sunday 22 August

  • Moderator | The Church Leaders Group (Ireland) has been an important forum for the Moderator to meet with other denominational leaders, and to gain wisdom during this unprecedented time of pandemic. Pray for this group as it continues to meet periodically.
  • Fanning the flame of congregational life: Being ready | Ask God to help congregations be ready to take the opportunities a new church year will bring for resuming more natural patterns of church life & witness to others.

Monday 23 August

  • Steve and Rosie Kennedy (global mission workers, Romania) | Give thanks for a successful Holiday Bible Club, held from 2-4 August. Give thanks for the leadership team meeting on 9 August, and pray for wisdom as they plan their way forward.  Pray that their family holiday will have brought relaxation and refreshment.
  • Afghanistan | Pray for the country at this time of upheaval and transition unfolding amidst rising Covid-19 cases. Remember those evacuated or fleeing Afghanistan, that they would find refuge and be guided in their next steps. Pray for peace and stability in the country at this critical point in its history.

Tuesday 24 August

  • Louise Davidson (deaconess in West Church, Bangor) | Pray that God will continue to enable and equip Louise as she draws alongside the women at West and Kilcooley, that she will bring the love, care, compassion and joy of Jesus in all situations. Give thanks to God that he is forever faithful.
  • Corvalley | Pray for the home mission congregation of Corvalley, that they will know God’s presence as they meet together and that they would be a witness to those around them.

Wednesday 25 August

  • Diane Cusick (global mission worker, Zambia) | Pray for the teachers and children in the CCAP schools in Zambia as they reopen again having been closed since June, and pray for inspiration for Diane as she begins working with the teachers in early childhood classes.
  • Haiti | Pray for the people of Haiti following the recent devastating earthquake. Pray for the rescue and relief efforts and for much needed medical supplies. Pray for the thousands injured, homeless and bereaved.

Thursday 26 August

  • Owen Wilson (community outreach worker in Crumlin) | Pray for the congregation in this new ‘normal’, that they would reconnect with the community in creative and practical ways. Pray that as they partner with Youth for Christ, their presence would be noticed and in time provide opportunities to share the love of Jesus.
  • Cootehill, Drum and Kilmount | Give thanks for the recent Holiday Bible Club held in the local primary school. Pray for the encouragement of the leaders as plans are made for youth and children’s work in the autumn.

Friday 27 August

  • Social Witness | None of us knows when we or those known to us will suffer from poor mental health. Pray that God will be close to those suffering from depression & other mental health problems. Pray for adequate funding.
  • Back to school | Give thanks for all who support our children and young people at school – classroom assistants, governors, teachers, principals, caretakers, cleaners and support staff. Pray that Christians on staff would have many opportunities to share the love of Jesus throughout the school year.

Saturday 28 August

  • General Council | As the end of summer approaches, congregations are preparing to re-start many of their activities – some for the first time since the pandemic lockdown. Pray for wisdom for kirk sessions and organisational leaders as they make their plans.
  • Training in Ministry | Ministry students are preparing to start the new year of College studies. There are 15 new students this year, along with 20 going into 2nd & 3rd years. The first two weeks are intensive Hebrew & Greek classes. Pray the Lord will prepare students for ministry through their college study & congregational placements.
