Sunday 21 January

  • Moderator | The Moderator visits his home town and congregation of Ballycastle this weekend. Pray for Rev Gary Glasgow (convener of the vacancy), the Kirk Session and the Council for Mission in Ireland as they plan for the future.
  • Worship: Directed and set free | “Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” Psalm 119:133. As we worship today ask God to direct our daily living and set us free from sins that overshadow our lives.

Monday 22 January

  • James and Heather Cochrane, global mission workers | Please pray for James and Heather on their time of sabbatical, that this would be a time of rest and refreshment. Pray that they would know the Lord’s leading for their future ministry.
  • Egypt Conference | Prayer for PCI’s ‘God’s Church in Egypt; Challenges, Calling and Creativity’ conference taking place on Friday 2 February at Assembly Buildings. Pray for all those involved in the preparations, that the Lord will guide them in their decisions. Pray for the guest speaker, Dr Anne Zaki, as she prepares and that she will arrive safely from Egypt.

Tuesday 23 January

  • Sylvia Santos-Bryce, deaconess, West Church Ballymena | Give thanks for the support of Sylvia’s family as she serves God in West Church in Ballymena. Pray for the leaders and people who come weekly to Buddies and Bundle (toddlers’ group). Pray for the Proximity Bible reflection groups, that they would continue to be an encouragement to each other and strengthen their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as they reflect on his Word. 
  • Howth and Malahide | Pray for these congregations, that they will grow deeper in faith together as they meet each week to worship the Lord. Pray also for their minister, Rev Alastair Dunlop, as he continues to serve the Lord.

Wednesday 24 January

  • Csaba and Ilona Veres, global mission workers, Hungary | Pray for all the practical details of Csaba and Ilona’s relocation to Hungary, especially for packing, moving and settling in to their new accommodation in Hajdúböszörmény. Pray that they would connect well with the team members and leadership in Bodaszőlő.
  • Presbyterian Church of East Africa | Pray for the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, especially the Moderator, Rt Rev Thegu Mutahi, and General Secretary, Rev Dr Robert Waihenya, as they give leadership to the church.

Thursday 25 January

  • Shirley McGonigle, assistant project leader, International Meeting Point | Give thanks for the many new people turning up to English classes since re-opening after Christmas and pray that the team and volunteers will reflect the love and light of Christ. Pray for the single mothers in the asylum-seeking community as they seek to create a stable environment for their young children while facing many cultural, linguistic, social and practical hurdles.
  • Kells, County Meath | Pray for this congregation as they meet together, that they would know God’s love through their fellowship and worship.

Friday 26 January

  • lder abuse | Older people are precious, full of wisdom and guidance through every step of life. Often as people age, they feel pushed aside and undervalued. Pray that as a society we would celebrate and take care of older people in our communities. Pray for the protection of older people from abuse perpetrated by those in whom they often have an expectation of trust. Give thanks for organisations which aim to prevent the abuse of older people through raising awareness, providing advice and guidance, influencing and informing policies in this area.
  • Cost of living | Give thanks for organisations like Christians Against Poverty and others who support people overwhelmed by debt and financial challenges resulting from the cost-of-living crisis. Pray that those who are in difficulty will find ways to access the support they need.

Saturday 27 January

  • General Council | Pray for the staff in the General Secretary’s Department as they support several of the Councils in our Church as well as the work of the Clerk and Deputy Clerk of the General Assembly and the Public Affairs Officer. 
  • Training in Ministry | The Deaconess Selection & Training Panel meets next Tuesday, 30 January. Pray for the Panel as it oversees the current recruitment of deaconesses. Pray too for Rev Angus Stewart, its convener.
