Sunday 20 August
- Moderator | In light of the data breach within the PSNI pray for all those who are vulnerable and at risk, that the Lord would be their refuge (Psalm 46:1) and that those intent on causing harm with this information would be prevented from doing so. Pray also for wisdom for those in leadership as they navigate this situation.
- Worship throughout the year: Pray for the welcomers | Give thanks for those who welcome worshippers each week as an expression of God’s welcome to us in Christ. Ask God to use them to encourage regular worshippers and make newcomers feel at home.
Monday 21 August
- St Petersburg Christian University, Russia | Pray for members of faculty and all staff, especially those who have been visiting with family over the summer, and for planning and preparations for the new academic year.
- Scripture Union, Malawi (SUM) | Pray for Goodson Saulosi, recently appointed as Director of SUM, that he may know God’s wisdom and guidance as he takes up this role.
Tuesday 22 August
- Rachel Cubitt, deaconess, Whiteabbey | Pray for the village outreach week for children, teens and adults that took place 7-13 August, including an event for the senior members organised by Rachel. Give thanks for all the leaders and helpers and pray God was glorified through the week.
- Carrigart and Dunfanaghy | Give thanks for Jack, the summer assistant, and for the number of people who attended during the summer. Give thanks for the holiday Bible club, and the children who came to it. Pray for wisdom and encouragement for the churches as they continue to pray for a minister.
Wednesday 23 August
- Diane Cusick (global mission worker, Zambia) | Pray for Diane as she prepares to return to Zambia and especially that the medication she requires will be easy to access. Pray for the teachers in the Early Childhood Centres as they continue their work with the young children in their care.
- United Mission to Nepal (UMN) | Give thanks that UMN’s General Assembly back in May was a time of fruitful interaction and blessing. Pray for all who work with UMN, that through their dedicated service many will come to know fullness of life.
Thursday 24 August
- Josh McCance, community outreach worker, Donabate | Give thanks for seven new members who have just joined the church in the last few weeks. Thank God for the team of volunteers who ran the summer kids club. Pray for the families they reached out to in the community, that they were able to share the gospel and build long-term relationships.
- Cootehill, Drum and Kilmount | Pray for these congregations as they meet, that the members will have experienced a time of refreshment over the summer and know the Lord’s equipping for the next church year.
Friday 25 August
- Kinghan Church | 2023 marks 166 years of faithful witness and God’s blessing on the Kinghan Church for the deaf community. Give thanks for weekly Sunday services in British Sign Language, which are uploaded to YouTube & Facebook accounts. This enables many members, & non-members, to participate in worship when ill, housebound, or in care homes.
- Education | Pray for young people who have received exam results & are making decisions about future studies at school or in further or higher education. Pray that the advice they receive would be helpful and wise, and that in the midst of uncertainty they might know the sure and steadfast hope of Christ our Saviour.
Saturday 26 August
- General Council | Pray for the staff in the Financial Secretary’s Department in Assembly Buildings as they continue their routine, but highly important, work. Pray particularly for the transition period over the incoming months as roles are restructured in light of the forthcoming retirement of the current Financial Secretary at the end of 2023.
- Training in Ministry | The second year of a new undergraduate BA degree that is taught by Union and validated by St Mary’s University begins this week. Give thanks for all that has enabled this to happen, and pray for the students who are starting their studies, and those who teach and provide all of the support needed for the programme.
