Sunday 10 December

  • Moderator | Give thanks for the staff of Assembly Buildings, that all will be encouraged as we remember and celebrate the incarnation of Jesus at the carol service on Wednesday. Pray that the many carol services held this week would communicate the glory of God and the grace of the gospel and many would come to know Jesus personally.
  • Worship as offering this Christmas | “On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense & myrrh.” Matthew 2:11. Pray that our worship this Christmas season will be marked by awe and self-sacrificial giving to Christ. 

Monday 11 December

  • Naomi Leremore, global mission worker, Kenya | Give thanks for the PCEA’s conference celebrating 40 years of the TEE department. Pray for those who attended that they would be encouraged and strengthened in their faith.
  • The Church of North India (CNI) | Give thanks for the appointment of a new General Secretary, Rev Dr Ajith Kumar. Pray that as he begins his role, he would know the Lord’s blessing.

Tuesday 12 December

  • Robert Dalzell, project leader, South Belfast Friendship House | Give thanks for their children’s worker, Carol, and her faithful work as she commences maternity leave, and for the person who will continue the children’s work. Pray for opportunities to work with whole families and show them clearly the hope of the gospel.
  • Moville, Greenbank, Carndonagh and Malin | Pray for these congregations as they meet on Sundays and share the good news with their community. Pray for all who attended their carol service, that people will continue to reflect on the love and hope of Christ.

Wednesday 13 December

  • Derek and Jane French, global mission workers, Spain | Pray for the student ministry at Bilbao International Church, that it would be a source of fellowship and growth. Pray for the Carols by Candlelight service, that many would come along, the gospel would be presented clearly and those visiting would experience the warmth of God’s people.
  • The Christian Presbyterian Church of Portugal – Pedras Vivas (ICPP – PV) | Give thanks for the continued growth of the church with both new Portuguese and Brazilians arriving. Pray for Pastor Leonardo’s visit to Portugal during December and January, especially as he preaches and meets members of the congregation and presbytery.

Thursday 14 December

  • Leslie and Mabel Brush, community outreach workers, Tartaraghan | Give thanks with Leslie and Mabel for so many opportunities to share the gospel through Christmas outreaches to different age groups in Tartaraghan. Pray for Leslie as he seeks to build relationships with neighbours and visits with invitations to their carol service.
  • Dunfanaghy and Carrigart | Give thanks for the interest and support in building up ministry to children at Sunday services. Pray for new developments in the congregations’ ministry as they plan quiet days of spiritual retreat and practical involvement in overseas mission.

Friday 15 December

  • Carers | Pray for the many unpaid carers as they do their best to support elderly relatives and those living with disabilities. Pray that we will look for more opportunities to do good for others in your name. Pray for parents, who themselves are growing older, and are concerned about looking after their adult children with learning/physical disabilities long-term.
  • Public Affairs | Many hospitals experience an influx of patients at this time of year, putting staff under additional pressure; pray for all those in hospitals. Pray for those leading our health and social care services, as they work to improve health and social care and adapt care systems to meet changing needs.

Saturday 16 December

  • General Council | Pray for everyone involved in the life of PCI’s congregations throughout the island of Ireland as they approach the celebration of Christmas. Remember leaders as they face the myriad of additional Christmas events & activities, that these might be an encouragement to those in congregations & a witness to the communities in which they serve.
  • Training in Ministry | Give thanks for the completion of another term at Union College, and pray for students and staff – that they would be blessed with rest and refreshment over the Christmas break. Pray too for those in congregational placements, that they would benefit from being part of the church family that they are placed in – both for their own walk with the Lord, and their preparation for ministry.
