First Kid’s – A Change of Direction
Hi everyone. I hope you’ve had a good week. Do you like to play games in the garden? I do. I like to play with a bat and ball – Tim throws the ball and I whack it as hard as I can with the bat sending the ball in the opposite direction. I have to make sure I don’t hit it into our neighbour’s garden!
In our Bible story today, you’re going to hear about a man whose life was going in the wrong direction, when suddenly something happened to him like the whack of a bat that sent him the right direction instead. The man’s name was Saul and at this time he was not a nice man. He didn’t like Christians, people who follow Jesus, and decided to have them all arrested and thrown into prison. Just for being Jesus’ followers! His life was definitely going in the wrong direction. One day he was going on a journey to a place called Damascus to arrest the Christians there, when suddenly something incredible happened that changed his direction and life forever. Quite suddenly, there was a light from heaven and a voice boomed out saying, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Well, Saul was so shocked he fell to the ground and shaking with surprise he asked, “Who are you, Lord?” And then he got the biggest shock of his life as the reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. Now get up, go into the city, and you’ll be told what to do”.
The other men travelling with Saul were so surprised they couldn’t think of anything to say! When Saul got up he wasn’t able to see, so his friends helped him and held his hand so he knew which way to go. Later he was healed and got his sight back and began telling everyone about Jesus being the Son of God. What a change! So now Saul, whose life used to be going in the wrong direction, was going the right way. And he became one of Jesus’ greatest followers and best preachers – and a nice man too!
